This study was done in second-grade classrooms in high poverty schools that showed low performance on state tests. There are many types of PBL models and the one used in this study showed the PBL can bring up test scores in some curricula areas in these type of classrooms. It did not show that PBL is the best way to teach everything to all students. This is not surprising and it would be interesting to see how students preformed on assessments that asked for more active participation in the testing itself.
