Places Visited
I was able to take Noah to tennis camp in the morning for three days and then play games, read books, and play outside in the afternoons. We had a great time!
Rachel and Taran came to visit and spend a couple of weekend nights. One of the days we met with Brian, Bea, and Noah at Liberty State Park where we took the Liberty Landing Ferry to Manhattan. We walked through the Oculus, then on to South Street Seaport. I had wanted to go there for a long time so I was happy to visit the several museums there. We ate lunch at Cobol & Co. then climbed the Irish Hunger Memorial on the way back to the ferry. We got ice cream while we visited and waited for the ferry. It was a great day! Before they left, Rachel, Taran, and I went to Glen Arden to visit my mother. She was glad to see everyone and especially to see how Taran is growing and crawling!
Derek and I went to the doctor's then met Rachel for lunch at a Wendy's in Schenectady, NY. I got my thoughtful birthday presents from them as well as being able to talk with them during lunch.
I stayed at Rachel, Jon, and Taran's home while they took their summer vacation. I had a great time there while taking care of their turkeys, chickens, rabbit, cats, and dog. They have a nice place for me to stay and thoughtfully left food and a gift certificate to a deli for me to use while I was there. I did go to Knox's Market Deli, in Knox, NY for hot chocolate one morning and for lunch. They make their hot chocolate with steaming milk and it was delicious as was the sandwich, fries, and frozen lemonade for lunch.
While I was there, I took a day to look around the beautiful area. I stopped at the Quaker Street Duanesburg Branch of the Schenectady County Public Library. It is a small but very welcoming and inviting library. From there I went to The Old Stone Fort Museum Complex in Schoharie, New York. There are five small museums, including the fort, and the people there were friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the entire visit including the oldest fire truck in the United States and a nearby covered bridge.
I also went to Troy, New York to visit Derek everyday. Besides going to doctors, we were able to Hudson Shores Park, a park near his apartment that I along the Hudson River. It is a lovely, long narrow park. We could also do some shopping. His health continues to improve. Another day we went to Prospect Park and saw the Uncle Sam Overview of Troy. It was a big park with trails that we did not have time to explore. We ate a fast food lunch together most days.
On the last day of my stay in the Albany area Rachel, Jon, and Taran stopped for a Wendy's lunch at Derek's apartment. It was great to hear about their trip!
