Places Visited
My mother and I went to see Aida in New York City. Before we saw the show we had lunch with Rachel in Hoboken, New Jersey at a new Italian restaurant.
I also went to Liberty State Park in New Jersey to see Rachel run in a cross country meet. Afterwards, we went to Hoboken where we met Brian and a friend for lunch at a pita restaurant.
Derek and I went to the Region 2 108th Dan Classing Championship at the Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield, New Jersey. This was run by the U. S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation, Inc. After this tournament we went to Hoboken, New Jersey were we ate at Giovanni's with Rachel.
Brain, his friend Beatrix, and I went to Perkins Memorial Drive on Bear Mountain, New York, to see the fall leaves. This drive climbs to the top of 1,305-foot Bear Mountain, second highest of the granite peaks known as the Hudson Highlands. The drive begins off Seven Lakes Drive, the main route through Bear Mountain State Park. The lower portion of the drive winds through deep woods and past exposed rock ledges characteristic of the region's up-thrust Precambrian granite. Broad vistas of the Hudson Valley open up as you ascend. A restored stone observation tower at the summit offers spectacular views.
We stopped at Bear Mountain State Park where we went on the zoo and trail side museum walk. We also went to Highland Falls, New York, where the "Fall Foliage Festival" was taking place on Main Street for the ninth year. The celebration, sponsored by the Town of Highland Historical Society, included food, street performances and craft vendors. Following this, we went to the West Point Museum where the museum and the Dufflebag Association featured military vehicles, re-enactors and a special exhibit of uniforms and memorabilia from 20th century wars. The museum also was hosting a special exhibit called "Timeless Treasures," in celebration of the Academy's bicentennial.
