Presentations and Accolades

Presentations:
On October 22, 2016 I gave a workshop on Middle School Literacy with an emphasis on technology for the 21st Annual Rockland Literacy Professional Conference held at St. Thomas Aquinas College.

 Publications:

The January 2018 issue of SLC Reviewer Newsletter has a conversation I had with another reviewer about reviewing books, videos, websites, etc. for School Library connection: https://sites.google.com/view/slc-reviewer-newsletter/janet-luch-mary-winningham.

Email:
from Derek:
As a father to two young kids, I've been looking for information on great reading resources for my son and daughter.
I had been struggling to find some good resources, but your page has pointed us in the right direction!

from Harry:

As a library media specialist up here in Maine, I wanted to thank you for putting together your collection of art projects on here - https://www.studyplans.com/art.html
Our library is hosting a special 'Art from Home' series this winter, and I'm currently putting together a resource guide for the attendees. We wanted to make sure we included some information on painting, weaving, spinning, ceramics and other various artistic mediums. I have some student volunteers helping me, and your page led us to some great sites to check out!

From Sarah and Katie:
I wanted to thank you for putting together your collection of Art Resources! My daughter Katie's Girl Scout troop is currently working on their Arts and Culture Fun Patch and the art websites on your page helped us a bunch!
For the summer months, Katie's troop leader still encouraged us parents to work with our girls at home to ensure we don't fall too far behind! She asked the girls to find some fun, at-home learning activities for arts & culture. Your page led us to some great websites to check out, so Katie and I wanted to make sure we thanked you :)

From Susan:
...my son Ethan absolutely loves band. Last year was his first year playing the trumpet and he's bummed that things aren't the same this school year. It's crazy that we are all still trying to navigate the pandemic! Since he's been unable to go to any lessons for several months, I've been determined to help find him some cool music sites. He loves learning about anything music related, with his favorite being instruments. The Music page http://www.studyplans.com/music.html was a huge help for me! Thank you so much for taking the time to put this page together. It was great to be able to find quality music related sites all in the same place. I'm definitely not an expert on the topic and I so very much appreciate your dedication to kids who love the arts.

from Olivia:
I wanted to give a big thumbs up from my son and I. He has a newfound obsession with Go but is a beginner (and I am totally clueless about this stuff so as he learns he is teaching me lol), your study plan about Go & Asia here came in handy: https://www.studyplans.com/asia.html

From Sam: The Mathematics page (http://www.studyplans.com/mathematics.html) led me to some awesome math games sites. This was exactly what I was looking for! It’s great to be able to find quality sites all together – thank you so much for taking the time to make this page! It made things so much easier for me!

From Scarlet: As I prepare myself for the edTPA, I have realized how helpful it was to have been in your class because it has allowed me to see learning from the perspective of children as well as the importance of language in the classroom. Also the text set and book bingo sheet you encouraged us to use has become helpful in choosing a text to utilize in my read-alouds and lessons.
I appreciate all the knowledge I have aquired through you and the confidence it has given me in teaching. I am working on improving my skills everyday and remember to use my experiences as learning lessons. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

From Tom: I wanted to let the team behind studyplans.com know your art page has been a big help! I've been referencing it for an art and design seminar I'm teaching at my local library out here in Vermont! We host an arts seminar each week and I'm happy to say they have been a big success!

from Sara and Ricky: I am beyond excited to say that my wife and I get to watch our grandbabies for a whole week and a half. We've been with them for two days and by last night we have almost read every book in the house.
Sara, my wife decided that for Christmas we will buy the kids all new books, but for now, I knew we could find some online if I looked hard enough. I ended up coming across your page https://www.studyplans.com/reading.html which was a score for us! and the kids loved the different stories.

from Beth: I wanted to send you a positive email about your reading webpage, www.studyplans.com/reading.html. I volunteer with a children's group at my library and have been referencing your page when we need good reading resources. The kids are currently setting their reading goals for spring break, which was a good reminder for me to contact you. So I wanted to say thanks for all the help from all of us!

From Julietta: My daughter is a Brownie Girl Scout and I'm going to be volunteering with her Girl Scout Troop to teach the girls about different kinds of crafts they can do so they can earn one of their art badges! I'm a huge crafter, but I've never taught kids about crafting and honestly I'm worried I'll be a lousy teacher so I've been trying to do some research so I'm ready for anything! You're page (This one: http://www.studyplans.com/teachers-resource-page.html ) gave me some really great ideas for crafts and activities I can do with these girls. Thanks!

From Matt: I just wanted to let you know your science page has been a big help! My daughter Katie is earning her Robotics badge in Girl Scouts right now (there's 3 different badge levels) ...her troop leader asked the girls to do some research at home, so like a good Dad, I've been helping her look online. Your page was a big help in leading us to other science and engineering resources! Thanks again!

From School Library Connection:  I just wanted to let you know that Paul Eckersley of Button Books publishers wanted me to pass along his thanks for your review of My First Book of Quantum Physics.  Well done!

From Jackie and Ava: My daughter Ava and I just wanted to reach out and thank you. Ava is in girl scouts, and is currently working to earn her "Eating for Beauty" badge - part of their fitness & nutrition program. ...Anyway, the girls were told to do some research at home on fitness & nutrition to share with the troop and she came across your page http://www.studyplans.com/sports.html. It was so helpful to her I wanted to reach out and thank you - I'm happy she's so invested in such an important topic.

From Sonia: Just wanted to drop a quick note to say thank you for putting the "Writing- https://www.studyplans.com/ writing.html" together.
I've been writing a persuasive speech (for the first time!) and was happy to find such great help. Many resources listed have been extremely valuable, and I am no longer terrified of public speaking :)

From Tess:  My name is Tess and I am a mother of two young boys. I've always loved reading and I'm trying to pass that on to my sons. I like them to have a break from screens every now and then. I decided to look into some reading activities and fun stories to read together which is where I found your page: http://www.studyplans.com/reading.html . I have used a ton of the sites already and I really wanted to thank you!
