Places Traveled
I drove to Scranton, Pennsylvania and spent a day touring Steamtown National Historic Site. I got to go on a ranger led train ride and two ranger walks. Although it was pretty hot and I couldn't be out in the sun, there was much more to see there than I expected. I especially enjoyed learning about trains from the rangers and then being able to go back to see them on my own.
After having a delicious take-away sausage and pepper hoagie at Dino & Francesco's Pizza & Family Restaurant, the next day I drove to the Anthracite Heritage Museum which I enjoyed very much. At the time I was there the traveling exhibition focused on the people of the region, a perfect topic for me. After about an hour-and-a-half, I took the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour. Although the museum and tour are not related businesses, I got a discount for going to both and they are right beside each other. The coal mine tour was just exciting enough to be thrilling but not scary.
I left the area wishing I had more time to spend looking at the other sites around Scranton!
I also was able to spend a few days with my family in New Jersey. One of the places my grandson and I went was to the Rancocas Nature Center for story hour on two days and one day to visit the animals on our own. We had picnics there and enjoyed the mornings. We also went to Sesame Street with with his dad and generally played Thomas and other games at his house. I had a marvelous week with him!
I spent a very enjoyable day with Rachel, Jon and his parents in Knox, New York. We had a wonderful picnic, looked at pictures of Rachel and Jon's trip to Newfoundland, and then ate a delicious desert. The weather was perfect for such a marvelous summer day with family.
