The Dark Between by Sonia Gensler
This realistic fiction book takes place at the turn of the twentieth century in Cambridge, England. At that time, spiritualism and seances were popular. While fraud related to the these activities are described in this book, scientists from the area were experimenting (often unethically) with ways to access unknown parts of the human brain, the dark between. Kate, Asher, and Elsie are teenagers who meet by chance at a small college in Oxford. Although they are from different backgrounds, they find they can work together well to solve the mystery of killings in the area. Their travels through Oxford, the customs of the time, including the clothes worn by different classes of people, are described in the book. |
