Places Visited
Brian and Noah stayed overnight and then we left the for Plattsburgh, New York. On the way, we visited with Rachel, Taran and a friend at Six Mile Waterworks, a park around a reservoir. We ate a picnic breakfast together, took a walk, and had a great time talking with them. We then went on to Plattsburgh where we had a great meal at the Texas Roadhouse and then went to Plattsburgh City Beach for a relaxing time. We also relaxed that evening in the pool at the Days Inn where we stayed in Plattsburgh.
We drove on to Mount-Royal, a park which has a vista overlooking, Montreal, Canada. The park is big and has a lake, statues, a playground, and many other things that make it an interesting place to take a walk in. From there we drove to the Gibeau Orange Julep Restaurant which is shaped like a giant 3-story orange. We ate corndogs, hamburgers, and, of course, their famous orange drink at an outside picnic table. Next, we went on the La Grande Roue de Montréal, a big Ferris wheel by the water. It had a great view of Montreal also. We then walked around the area until it was time to check into our Airbnb; an apartment in a house in old Montreal that was built in the 1600s. It had stone walls and was decorated to look like an historic house with modern amenities. It was charming!
The following morning, we went to Pointe-à-Callière, the Montreal Archeology and History Complex. It had a variety of hands-on activities and was very interactive. The special exhibit when we were there was about Egypt. It was an exceptionally fun museum. We had a delicious lunch at an outdoor table at an Italian restaurant before visiting the small but interesting Bank of Montreal Museum. After a rest at our apartment, we took Montreal's subway to Montreal's Underground City. We rested and had a soda at TIME-OUT, a food court type area with many restaurants available. We looked at some of the stores before taking the subway back to our Airbnb. We got to see a lot this day!
The next day we visited the Montreal Botanical Garden and the Parc Olympique Le Centre Sportif, animals in different habitats from around the world. These were two of the large exhibits that are at the grounds of a past Olympics. They were interesting and had a great deal to see. We enjoyed them both very much. Between the visits we ate at Poutine Centrale, a unique restaurant where we had, of course, poutine. It was delicious and we liked the restaurant very much. After a rest at our apartment, we walked to Ques de Castor for beavertails. We got three different kinds to share and they were all wonderful! We ended the day with a drive around the outskirts of Montreal, even driving on the Grand Prix at one point. It was quite interesting to see Montreal from various viewpoints. It was a great day!
Our last stop in Canada was at the Alpagas du Domaine Poissant where there were over 200 alpacas to see, and we got to walk one on an established path. It was great fun! Soon after entering the United States, we stopped at Devyn's Creemee Stand and had a delicious creemee cone. We had been looking forward to this and it was worth the wait. It was wonderful! We drove on to the Ethan Allen Homestead Historical Site where we watched a short film, saw the homestead, and had an informative tour of the house. It was a very interesting stop to end a marvelous day!
On our last day, after a night's stay and breakfast at the Hilton in Burlington, we walked along the Lake Champlain waterfront before spending the morning at the ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain doing all kinds of fun hands-on activities. It is a great place to visit! On our way home, we ate at the Olive Garden with a stop for a creemee on our way home. It was a wonderful trip with so many great things to see and do!
